Aam Panna - Raw Mango summer drink

When summers are around the corner you look out for new fluid options that can hydrate & refresh you. This summer, stop looking, try Aam Panna! This sweet & sour drink, made from raw green mangoes, is an excellent thirst quencher and known for its great heat resistance properties & good source of Vitamin C. This cool healthy drink is one of the best ways to beat the scorching summer heat. It's one of my favorites and can't get enough of it ever since my childhood.

Panna is very easy to make & you can store it for days in refrigerator, just like any other fruit punch or squash.

Ingredients

Raw mangoes -2
4 cups water
Jaggery/sugar - to taste
Salt - to taste
Cardamom -5-6
Saffron - few strands (optional)

Method
Peel the raw mangoes and then boil them. If you boil without peeling it may leave a bitter taste to your panna concentrate. So its better peel it & chop them in to big chunks.

Now boil these chopped raw mango pieces till they become soft. It doesn't take a lot of time for the raw mango to soften, may be around 10-15 mins.
Tip: don't use too much water as we wouldn't be discarding any of this boiled flavored water.

Switch off the gas & add Jaggery. This way the Jaggery will dissolve quickly.
Tip: Jaggery gives this drink a much better flavor than sugar, but if you don't have it handy use sugar.

Once your raw mango & Jaggery mixture cools off blend it (in a blender) with salt & cardamom till you get a smooth texture. Add the saffron thread & mix to allow the rich yellowish orange color to develop.

Your panna concentrate is ready - store it in a bottle/jar and keep it in the refrigerator.
To serve fill the glass with equal portion of Aam Panna & chilled water. Drop in some ice cubes if required.

Party Tip: I haven't yet experimented this drink in mock-tails or cock-tails. If you ever do it please leave a comment and share your experiences.

    Stay Hydrated, Stay Healthy !!!
